In honor of World Environment Day 2025, International Breweries Plc (IBPLC), a subsidiary of AB InBev, spearheaded a nationwide environmental campaign across their five brewery locations, including Abuja and Lagos, under the banner of Africa Sustainability Week. Staff, community volunteers, and local partners joined forces in riverbank cleanups aimed at curbing urban plastic pollution, while sensitization events—including waste-sorting demos in Lagos—educated residents on responsible disposal practices. The activity embodies their ethos that sustainability should transcend corporate policy to become a way of life, as emphasized by IBPLC MD Carlos Coutino.
IBPLC also reported significant progress on packaging circularity, with over 95% of its beverage portfolio now in returnable glass bottles—saving substantial amounts of single-use plastics—and has pledged that by the end of 2025, 100% of its products will feature returnable or recycled packaging. Through its affiliation with the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance, the company recovered more than 200 tonnes of PET and flexible plastic in 2024, aligning with its Extended Producer Responsibility goals. Government and FBRA officials praised IBPLC’s leadership in waste recovery and recycling, reinforcing partnerships in states such as Rivers, Osun, and Nasarawa for future community collection hubs.
