– Edo and Taraba States Flood Mitigation Strategies
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has initiated flood preparedness campaigns in Edo and Taraba states to mitigate the impact of anticipated flooding during the 2025 rainy season. These campaigns focus on community sensitization regarding proper waste management, the importance of clearing drainage systems, and the need for residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to higher ground. In Edo State, NEMA, in collaboration with the Edo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), is conducting workshops and community outreach programs to educate residents on flood risks and preventive measures.
In Taraba State, NEMA is working closely with local authorities to distribute relief materials to communities previously affected by floods and to establish flood control teams across all 168 wards. These teams are tasked with implementing proactive measures to prevent future disasters, including emergency management and community engagement initiatives.
