The Lagos State Government has initiated the relocation of the Okobaba plank market from Ebute Metta to a newly developed site in Agbowa-Ikosi, Ikorodu. This move aims to address environmental concerns and enhance urban development. To support the transition, the government is providing 260 housing units for traders at the new Timberville site, developed in partnership with First World Communities.

While some stakeholders, such as the Oko-baba Sawmillers Association, have praised the government’s efforts, others have raised concerns about the adequacy of the new facilities and the relocation process. Civil society organizations have criticized the government’s approach, citing violations of housing rights and inadequate consultation with affected communities.

A Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the state government to halt the relocation pending the provision of suitable alternatives. Despite this, reports indicate that over 2,000 stalls were demolished, leading to the displacement of more than 5,000 residents.Lagos Relocates Okobaba Plank Market to Agbowa, Provides Housing for Traders
