The Kaduna State Government, in collaboration with the non-governmental organization Bridge That Gap Initiative, is mobilizing stakeholders to address climate change through a comprehensive “whole-of-society” approach. This initiative is part of the Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Change Engagement (PACE), a program funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), aiming to enhance governance and climate resilience.
During a two-day workshop held in Zaria, stakeholders from various sectors—including government agencies, community organizations, and citizens—convened to identify governance challenges and service delivery gaps related to climate change. The Commissioner for the Kaduna State Planning and Budget Commission, Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed, emphasized the importance of this collaborative effort in developing strategies that prioritize community needs and drive sustainable progress.
Ms. Gloria Bulus, Executive Director of Bridge That Gap Initiative and a consortium partner for PACE, highlighted that the program focuses 30% on climate change and 70% on governance. She noted that PACE builds upon previous initiatives like PERL and SPARC to strengthen governance systems in policy, public financial management, and service delivery. The program aims to create a robust governance structure to ensure effective policy direction, coordination of interventions, budget financing, and accountability for public investments.
