Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp), Nigeria’s leading diversified conglomerate, has initiated a nationwide environmental Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project aimed at promoting proper waste management and recycling in schools. Launched on September 20, 2023, the initiative involves employees from Transcorp’s subsidiaries—including Transcorp Hotels Plc, Transcorp Power Limited, Transafam Power Limited, and Transcorp Energy Limited—visiting two schools each across various states to educate students and educators on responsible waste disposal and the benefits of recycling.
The project aligns with Transcorp’s Africapitalism philosophy, emphasizing the company’s commitment to driving positive change within its operating environment. By engaging directly with secondary schools, Transcorp aims to instill a sense of environmental responsibility among young Nigerians, inspiring them to adopt sustainable practices. ([Naturenews.africa][2], [ThisDay Live][3])As part of the initiative, Transcorp has partnered with Recycle Points, a prominent waste recycling and social benefit company, to provide segmented dustbins to each participating school. These specialized bins are designed to facilitate effective waste segregation, encouraging a culture of recycling within school premises. Additionally, the recyclables collected will be used to train out-of-school children, further extending the program’s social impact.
Dr. Owen Omogiafo, President and Group CEO of Transcorp, expressed pride in the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship, stating, “At Transcorp, being the Africapitalists that we are, we firmly believe that sustainable development is a shared responsibility. Actively engaging with local schools and investing in educational initiatives allows us to create a lasting positive impact on our environment and inspire the younger generation to adopt eco-friendly practices.”
