Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) is intensifying efforts to expand gas distribution across Nigeria, aiming to bolster industrialization and economic development. At the Nigeria International Energy Summit in Abuja, SNG Managing Director Ralph Gbobo emphasized the critical role of infrastructure in delivering gas efficiently to consumers. He highlighted the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) as a model for effective gas transportation and advocated for the implementation of the Network Code to attract more investors into the domestic gas market.
In a significant move, SNG signed a 20-year agreement with the Oyo State Government to develop a gas supply and distribution network targeting industrial and commercial users. The project will commence with a 15 km pipeline and is expected to deliver up to 60 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, with first gas anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2025. Governor Seyi Makinde described the initiative as a catalyst for the state’s industrialization drive, aiming to boost internally generated revenue and create job opportunities. SNG’s expansion aligns with Nigeria’s “Decade of Gas” initiative, focusing on increasing domestic gas utilization. The company currently operates gas distribution systems in Rivers, Abia, and Ogun states, serving over 140 customers. The Oyo State project marks a significant step in extending gas infrastructure to underserved regions, promoting cleaner energy alternatives, and supporting the nation’s energy transition goals.
