On May 22, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated the newly appointed board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Emphasizing the critical role of NNPCL in Nigeria’s economic transformation, President Tinubu urged the board to consolidate the gains of ongoing economic reforms and to explore all options for a win-win situation for the country. He highlighted the board members’ reputation, resourcefulness, and experience, expressing confidence in their ability to help reposition NNPCL for greater efficiency and competitiveness.
The President also underscored the importance of looking inward for solutions amid global economic volatility, indicating that Nigerians would depend on the repositioning of NNPCL. He expressed pride in the assembled team and belief in their potential to succeed.
Minister of State for Petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri, lauded the President’s selection, describing the board as the best in Africa. Board Chairman Ahmadu Musa Kida and Group Chief Executive Officer Bashir Bayo Ojulari both expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and committed to upholding the highest standards of leadership and integrity. Ojulari noted that the management had initiated bi-weekly meetings with industry stakeholders and commenced optimization efforts, including the turnaround maintenance of refineries, leading to an increase in production from 1.5 million to 1.7 million barrels within two months.
