In May 2025, over 150 representatives from Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Asia-Pacific region convened in the Cook Islands for the Green Climate Fund’s (GCF) Regional Dialogue. Delegates from 13 Pacific nations, along with Maldives and Timor-Leste, collaborated with GCF officials to enhance climate resilience initiatives. The dialogue focused on strengthening partnerships, sharing best practices, and streamlining access to climate finance. Prime Minister Mark Brown of the Cook Islands emphasized the need for coherent, scalable, and impactful climate solutions, highlighting GCF’s role as a responsive and innovative partner. The event featured technical workshops aligned with GCF’s updated Strategic Plan, aiming to expedite funding processes and support both public and private sector projects. Hemant Mandal, Director of GCF’s Asia Pacific Regional Department, acknowledged the significant contributions of Pacific SIDS to the global climate agenda, noting that nearly 20% of GCF’s Asia-Pacific portfolio is invested in the region.
