Gloria Kasang Bulus, environmentalist and Executive Director of Bridge That Gap Initiative, has called for urgent intervention to address the escalating pollution crisis in Gujeni, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State. During a recent site visit, Bulus highlighted the health risks posed by the community’s sewage dump, where over 150 scavengers process waste into manure without protective gear. She emphasized the need for proper health measures and environmental safety regulations to protect both the workers and the surrounding community.
Bulus also pointed out the broader environmental challenges in Kaduna, including illegal waste dumps in residential areas like Tudun Illu, which have led to incidents such as fires near schools. She urged the Kaduna State Government to enforce strict waste management practices, engage with civil society organizations for inclusive policy development, and prioritize the health and safety of its citizens.
