The House of Representatives Committee on Works has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing shoreline protection project at Marina, Lagos State. Chairman Akin Alabi, during a recent inspection, emphasized the project’s significance in safeguarding critical infrastructure, notably the Blue Rail Line and Outer Marina Road, from coastal erosion.
Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, reported that approximately 30% of the permanent work has been completed. The project involves reinforcing existing metal sheet piles with new concrete ones to enhance shoreline resilience, aiming to extend the lifespan of the protected infrastructure by over 25 years.
In addition to the shoreline efforts, the committee inspected the newly installed 24-hour surveillance system under the Third Mainland Bridge, covering the stretch from Oworonshoki to Falomo Bridge. This security infrastructure aims to bolster the safety and longevity of one of Lagos’s vital transportation links.
