The Pan African Vision for the Environment (PAVE) has initiated the Multi-solving Action to Methane Reduction in Nigeria (MAMRN) project, aiming to reduce methane emissions through sustainable waste management practices. The project commenced with a workshop on April 23, 2025, in Lagos State’s Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), focusing on educating households about organic waste segregation and reduction at the source.

Funded by the Global Methane Hub and implemented in partnership with the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives, MAMRN is a collaborative, multi-stakeholder initiative. It emphasizes the urgency of addressing methane—a potent short-lived climate pollutant—through practical, inclusive, and scalable waste management approaches. The project is being piloted in four Nigerian urban centers: Lagos, Abuja, Jos, and Benin City.

Local leaders, including Mr. Sunday Ogidan, CDC Chairman of Coker-Aguda LCDA, expressed support for the initiative, highlighting its potential to lay a strong foundation for tapping into the waste management value chain for economic growth and development. The workshop series, which also took place in Apapa-Iganmu and Itire-Ikate LCDAs, marks the operational launch of MAMRN’s efforts to promote zero-waste strategies and curb methane emissions across Nigeria.
