– Summit focuses on geopolitical, technological, and economic energy factors
The International Energy Agency (IEA), in collaboration with the UK government, is hosting the Summit on the Future of Energy Security in London from April 24 to 25, 2025. The event will bring together ministers and senior officials from 60 countries, alongside leaders from the energy sector, international organizations, and civil society.
Co-hosted by UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, and IEA Executive Director, Fatih Birol, the summit aims to build consensus on a holistic approach to energy security. Discussions will address traditional and emerging risks, including geopolitical tensions, technological advancements, and economic factors affecting energy supply and demand.
Key topics include energy access and affordability, the role of clean energy technologies, the resilience of energy systems to climate impacts, and the availability of critical minerals. Preparatory sessions and technical workshops will precede the summit, focusing on gas security, critical minerals, and Ukraine’s energy system.
Notably, Russia and China will not participate in the summit. China cited scheduling conflicts, while Russia was not invited due to ongoing geopolitical tensions.
The summit will be livestreamed on IEA digital channels, providing a platform for global stakeholders to engage in discussions shaping the future of energy security.
