The Dredgers Association of Nigeria (DAN) has refuted claims that its members are responsible for the poor state of Lagos’ Eko and Carter bridges.

In a statement dated April 10, 2025, DAN’s General Secretary, Mr. Richard Ntan, emphasized that their industrial dredging activities are conducted in regulated areas far from bridge infrastructures, primarily focusing on creeks and the center of the Lagos lagoon. He highlighted that such dredging is essential for maintaining navigable waterways and is executed under strict environmental guidelines to minimize any adverse effects.

Furthermore, DAN called for an investigation into reclamation dredging activities near the Third Mainland Bridge, distinguishing them from the association’s operations. The association reiterated its commitment to environmentally responsible practices and compliance with national regulations.
