The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) is set to upgrade the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration (CEER) in Ogoniland, Rivers State, to international standards. The centre will focus on environmental research, pollution control, and ecosystem restoration.
A Technical Planning Committee, headed by Prof. Don Baridam, has submitted key recommendations on academic curricula, governance, and funding strategies to ensure smooth operations. With construction over 80% complete, commissioning is expected by September 2025.
HYPREP also plans to expand the centre’s labs to include biotechnology, supporting phytoremediation and food security initiatives as part of federal directives.
