Farmers in Nigeria are calling for strict adherence to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s (NiMet) weather predictions to help prevent food insecurity. They stress that following seasonal climate forecasts will enable farmers to better plan their planting and harvesting activities, reducing crop losses caused by unpredictable weather.
The farmers, through their various associations, highlighted the importance of government agencies and agricultural stakeholders using NiMet’s information to guide farming practices. They also called for greater investment in climate-smart agriculture to improve resilience against climate change and extreme weather events.
