Austrian hydrologist Professor Günter Blöschl has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Stockholm Water Prize for his groundbreaking work in hydrology and water resource management. The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), which announced the award, praised Blöschl’s extensive research on flood prediction, climate change impacts on water systems, and sustainable water management strategies.
Blöschl, a professor at the Vienna University of Technology, is recognised globally for his innovative approaches to linking scientific research with real-world water challenges. His contributions have informed policies on water management in several countries and helped develop practical tools for addressing flood risks and droughts.
The Stockholm Water Prize, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize of Water,” is awarded annually to individuals or organisations that make exceptional contributions to the preservation and improvement of the world’s water resources. Blöschl will receive the award during World Water Week in August 2025.
