The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing best practices to drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s battery sector. Authorities say the move will enhance environmental protection, public health, and economic development by ensuring battery production and recycling comply with global standards.
The Director-General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Prof. Aliyu Jauro, highlighted the government’s resolve during a recent engagement with industry stakeholders. He stressed that unsafe disposal of lead-acid batteries poses serious health and environmental risks, urging manufacturers and recyclers to adopt safer practices.Jauro emphasized the need for collaboration among industry players, regulators, and the public to foster a cleaner and more competitive battery value chain. The government will also support capacity-building initiatives and strengthen enforcement of environmental regulations to ensure sector-wide compliance.
