The National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) has called on stakeholders to support the development of Nigeria’s Just Transition Guidelines aimed at achieving a fair and inclusive shift to a low-carbon economy. The Director-General of the NCCC, Dr. Salisu Dahiru, made this appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting, stressing that a collective approach is key to ensuring that no community or sector is left behind.

The Council explained that the guidelines will address the socio-economic impacts of climate action on workers, industries, and vulnerable communities, ensuring that climate policies promote both environmental sustainability and social justice.

Dahiru highlighted that the input of key sectors such as labour, private industry, civil society, and academia is crucial to designing a strategy that reflects Nigeria’s unique context. He reaffirmed the NCCC’s commitment to aligning national efforts with global climate goals while prioritizing economic resilience and social inclusion.
