AfDB and Eritrea have signed a $19.5 million agreement to develop a 12MW mini-grid project aimed at improving electricity access and sustainability in rural areas. The project will boost renewable energy generation, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and enhance economic opportunities for local communities.
This initiative aligns with Eritrea’s national energy strategy to expand clean energy infrastructure and promote economic growth. The mini-grid system will increase electricity supply for households, businesses, and essential services, fostering social and economic development.
The AfDB emphasized its commitment to advancing Africa’s energy transition, ensuring that more communities benefit from affordable, reliable, and sustainable power. The investment is expected to reduce energy poverty while supporting climate resilience efforts in Eritrea.
