– Sanwo-Olu Unveils New Building Safety Initiative
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched the Certified Accreditors Programme (CAP) to enhance building safety and compliance. The initiative enlists private sector experts to work alongside the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) in reviewing structural plans, conducting inspections, and ensuring adherence to building codes. The CAP is a response to past building collapses and recommendations from a panel of experts. It aims to strengthen oversight by introducing 111 certified accreditors, who will monitor construction activities and enforce safety regulations. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the programme is part of Lagos’ broader THEMES+ development agenda, aimed at improving infrastructure and protecting lives. LASBCA’s General Manager, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, praised the initiative, stating it would boost efficiency and accountability in the construction sector. The initiative marks a significant step in Lagos’ commitment to safer, more sustainable urban development.
