Climagraphy, a media organization dedicated to climate and environmental storytelling, is set to host its first community-centered photo exhibition titled “The Current: Lagos is Rising, the Sea Too!”
The exhibition will showcase the work of Nigerian documentary photographer Mayowa Adebote, aiming to highlight the realities of climate change through compelling visual narratives.
Innovative Exhibition Approach: Departing from traditional gallery settings, “The Current” will transform dilapidated structures into exhibition spaces within the Akodo-Ise Community. This immersive approach brings climate stories directly to those most affected, fostering dialogue and engagement among policymakers, climate experts, and local residents.
Focus on Affected Communities: Nigeria’s coastal and riverine areas face challenges like rising sea levels and erosion. The exhibition combines vivid photography with firsthand accounts to illustrate how environmental changes impact lives and livelihoods. Adebote, also the Creative Director of Climagraphy, emphasizes the exhibition’s goal to ensure that those experiencing climate change firsthand are both seen and heard, bridging gaps between science, policy, and public engagement.
Event Details and Call for Support Scheduled for April 4 to 5, 2025, in Akodo-Ise Community, the event will feature panel discussions, workshops, and training sessions aimed at fostering collaboration among stakeholders. Climagraphy seeks partnerships with organizations and individuals passionate about environmental advocacy to support this initiative.
