FCT Farmers Adopt GM Crops
Government Support for GM Farming
Benefits of GM Crops in Nigeria
Farmers in Kuje, FCT, are optimistic about genetically modified (GM) crops, citing improved yields and pest resistance. At a Farmers Field Day event, they urged the government to support GM adoption through seed subsidies and training.
Cyprian Ede reported higher yields with Tela maize, which resists pests like the fall armyworm. Judith Okpanachi, a beans farmer, praised PBR cowpea for requiring fewer pesticides. Ndaman Dantani noted that PBR cowpea reduced pesticide use and maintained quality after harvest. Farmers believe that government support will boost food security and enhance agricultural productivity nationwide.
