Wildlife Conservation Finance
Sustainable Funding for Biodiversity
Nigeria’s Wildlife Protection Strategies
On World Wildlife Day 2025, stakeholders in Abuja stressed the urgent need for innovative financing to support conservation efforts. Nigeria’s Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Lawal, emphasized that wildlife protection is crucial for ecological balance and economic growth.
Experts, including UNODC and the National Park Service, advocated for alternative funding models like Wildlife Conservation Bonds and Debt-for-Nature Swaps. This aligns with global efforts, including the UN’s $200 billion annual biodiversity fund commitment.
With rising environmental challenges, sustainable funding is essential to safeguard Nigeria’s rich biodiversity for future generations.
