Downstream Sector Opportunities
Alternative Fuels in Nigeria
At the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) 2025 in Abuja, Eterna Plc’s CEO, Olumide Adeosun, discussed emerging opportunities in Nigeria’s downstream energy sector. He emphasized that safety and regulatory stability are essential for attracting investments, stating that investors seek environments where the rule of law and safety standards are upheld. Adeosun highlighted a shift from traditional modular and large-scale refining projects to alternative energy solutions.
He pointed to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a viable fuel for commercial transportation and noted the growing interest among Nigerians in electric and alternative-fuel vehicles, despite existing power infrastructure challenges. He also identified significant investment potential in battery technology and solar-powered charging systems. Adeosun revealed that Nigeria’s two-wheeler and three-wheeler market consumes approximately 25 million liters of petrol daily, suggesting a transition to battery-powered alternatives could enhance energy efficiency and reduce petrol dependence. He called on industry stakeholders to leverage existing infrastructure to support this transition, reaffirming Eterna Plc’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in Nigeria’s energy landscape.
