Construction on Sections 3A and 3B of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, covering Cross River and Akwa Ibom, is set to begin in the first week of March 2025. The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, during an inspection tour of Section One, Phase One of the project in Lagos.

Umahi confirmed that the two sections would span 55km and praised President Bola Tinubu for initiating the 700km highway, emphasizing its economic and infrastructural benefits.

The highway will feature reinforced concrete pavement, train tracks between carriageways, solar lighting for carbon credits, cable channels, and windmill energy to supply free power to nearby communities.

Umahi expressed optimism that the road would ease congestion at Lagos’ Apapa Wharf by providing alternative routes through Epe, Sagamu, Ore, and Benin. He assured that the first 30km of Section One is targeted for completion before May 28, despite initial delays due to natural factors.

The Federal Ministry of Works reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the highway is delivered on schedule. Bede Obioha, Director of Highway Bridges Design and Construction, highlighted a collaborative approach involving the government, contractors, and consultants to overcome challenges efficiently.

Dany Abboud, Managing Director of Hitech Construction Company Ltd., pledged that the first 30km of the highway would be ready for inauguration on May 25. He assured that the construction team is working day and night to meet the deadline.
