The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) is ramping up efforts to tackle waste and pollution on the state’s waterways. Partnering with the Lagos Recyclers Association, LASWA is enforcing strategies for cleaner, safer water channels.
LASWA educates boat operators and passengers on the dangers of dumping waste, especially plastics, into the water. These pollutants harm aquatic life and disrupt boat operations, creating safety risks.
To reduce pollution, LASWA has installed waste bins at key jetties and encourages proper waste disposal. Regular cleanup exercises also help clear debris and keep waterways navigable. These efforts boost environmental sustainability and improve the safety and efficiency of Lagos water transport.
