The Ondo State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to transforming the state’s physical landscape through a comprehensive urban renewal agenda.
Mr. Bunmi Alade, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, emphasized this commitment during a stakeholder meeting with the Deji of Akure and his council of chiefs in Akure on January 31, 2025. Alade highlighted the importance of collaboration with local leaders to achieve sustainable urban growth. He announced that the governor is set to approve a modern master plan for Akure and other major cities in the state, aiming to improve residents’ quality of life through orderly development.
The Permanent Secretary urged the Deji to sensitize the community against constructing illegal structures, warning that unauthorized buildings would be demolished without notice or compensation. He advised prospective builders to obtain necessary approvals from the ministry to ensure compliance with state building regulations.
In response, the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, expressed concern over unauthorized constructions and called for intensified monitoring to prevent activities that could hinder government programs. He commended the government’s urban renewal strategies and pledged full support from his kingdom to ensure the success of these initiatives.
This renewed focus on urban planning underscores Ondo State’s commitment to sustainable development and the enhancement of living standards for its citizens.
