The Lagos State Government has sealed off Ebute-Ero Market Block N for illegally channeling sewage pipes into public drains and constructing a septic tank on a walkway. The operation, carried out by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on January 24, 2025, also targeted a public toilet at Under Bridge by Leventis Bus Stop, Apongbon, for discharging untreated sewage into the Lagoon.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, emphasized that these actions were in line with the Environmental Management and Protection Law (EMPL) 2017. Wahab stated that the government is committed to improving sanitation, ensuring public health safety, and maintaining a sustainable environment in Lagos.

The LSWMO also resealed Optimum Exposure Media Control Room for similar environmental violations. Wahab reaffirmed the state’s zero-tolerance policy on environmental pollution and urged citizens to adopt proper hygiene practices.

These enforcement operations reflect the Lagos State Government’s dedication to tackling environmental violations and fostering a clean, safe environment for residents. The actions are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to uphold accountability and ensure adherence to public health and safety regulations.
