The Nigerian Federal Government has authorized N4 billion for conditional cash transfers to assist vulnerable households across the country. This initiative is expected to benefit at least 10 million displaced families, particularly those in the Northeast. The plan, set to run from February to April 2025, targets the most at-risk segments of society, including women, children, and persons with disabilities.

The approval was announced by Prof. Nentawe Yilwada, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, during the launch of the 2025 Nigeria Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) at the United Nations House in Abuja. This program forms part of broader efforts to tackle the country’s escalating humanitarian crisis, providing immediate relief to families affected by displacement and natural disasters.

In addition to the cash transfer initiative, the government has also allocated N2 billion in interest-free loans to farmers in rural communities to boost food production and self-sufficiency. Yilwada emphasized that women, particularly widows, pregnant women, and those with disabilities, would be prioritized in these efforts.

The Nigerian government is committed to addressing food insecurity, supporting displaced households, and alleviating poverty through such interventions, with the aim of fostering long-term resilience in affected communities.
