DEVCON-PADIC Africa, an environmental NGO, has concluded a two-year project aimed at empowering women and community members in Cross River State through bee farming and sustainable practices. Funded by global partners like FAO, ECOWAS, and SIDA, the initiative focused on improving livelihoods and preserving forest ecosystems.

Speaking at a Project Lessons Sharing Workshop held in Iko Esai, Dr. Martins Egot, Executive Director of DEVCON-PADIC Africa, highlighted the success of the initiative. “The establishment of eco-guards and bee farming has significantly improved community life. The cooperative groups for women are a game-changer for economic empowerment,” he said.

Community women, led by Akon Ekpe, expressed their gratitude, noting that bee farming, tree nurseries, and cooperatives have enhanced their income and livelihood.

Experts like Tony Attah from the Wildlife Conservation Society and Clement Omina from Cross River’s Ministry of Tourism urged participants to use their skills for income generation while conserving the forest.

The project underscores the importance of combining environmental conservation with economic empowerment, ensuring a sustainable future for Cross River communities.
