The German government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have inaugurated 1,900 resettlement houses and an ICT center in Monguno, Borno State, to aid displaced families affected by insurgency.

Boosting Community Stability
German Ambassador Annet Günther praised Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for his dedication to rebuilding communities. The initiative, a collaboration between Borno’s government and international partners, aims to restore stability and improve living conditions for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Collaborative Development
The project includes 1,000 two-bedroom houses, 900 semi-permanent shelters, 375 solar-powered streetlights, and a modern vocational center. Governor Zulum stated that the housing units will benefit 1,874 households from 18 IDP camps, promoting safe reintegration into their ancestral homes.

Supporting Socio-Economic Growth
UNDP Country Representative Elsie Attafuah emphasized the impact of the initiative on community resilience and security, particularly for women and children. Attafuah commended Germany and other international donors for their contributions, highlighting the importance of sustainable development in conflict-affected regions.

This project marks a significant step toward decongesting IDP camps and fostering socio-economic welfare in Borno State.
