Polar Power, Inc. (NASDAQ: POLA), a leading provider of solar hybrid power and microgrid solutions, announced the completion of a microgrid installation at a United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) facility in Nigeria. The installation includes DC generators, solar PV inverters, batteries, and controls, designed to enhance the facility’s energy reliability and sustainability.

In collaboration with Leonics Ltd. (supplying inverters and lithium batteries), Biohenry Ltd. (providing installation services), and the UNHCR Greening and Sustainability Team, Polar Power has equipped the site with a cutting-edge microgrid system. The microgrid ensures uninterrupted power supply during blackouts and reduces operational costs, particularly through fuel savings of up to 70%.

Polar Power’s CEO, Arthur Sams, highlighted the cost-effectiveness of the solution, which was delivered at about half the price of competing systems. He emphasized the added advantage of the system’s ability to protect equipment from grid fluctuations, ensuring continuous power for critical operations such as refrigeration, communications, and water pumping. Furthermore, the solar PV array is compact, making it ideal for installation in remote locations.

The successful implementation of this microgrid is expected to significantly reduce fuel consumption, maintenance, and utility costs, making it a model for future UN projects. Polar Power looks forward to expanding this technology to other UN facilities globally, potentially benefiting regions facing energy challenges, especially in disaster-prone areas.
