Shell companies in Nigeria have partnered with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and other stakeholders to enhance education through new technology facilities. This year, they established Information Communication Technology (ICT) centers and a digital library at various Nigerian universities.
Recent Developments
In April, Shell Nigeria Exploration Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) and NNPC launched a digital library at Niger Delta University in Bayelsa State. In July, they commissioned an ICT center at Sa’adu Zungur University in Bauchi State. Most recently, they unveiled an engineering design studio and ICT hub at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
Commitment to Education

FUTO Facilities
FUTO’s new facilities include two advanced engineering design studios and a 100-seat ICT lecture hall equipped with computers and smartboards. The selection of FUTO aligns with SPDC’s Assa North Ohaji South Gas Development Project, aiming to strengthen local educational institutions.
State Government Support
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, represented by Commissioner Dr. Chimezie Amadi, praised the initiative. He emphasized its importance for human capacity building in the state, supporting innovation and sustainable economic growth.

Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Monitoring and Development Board (NCDMB), urged institutions to adapt advancements in artificial intelligence and technology. He emphasized the need for local language integration in AI development.
Fostering Innovation
Bala Wunti, Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC, spoke about the importance of innovation and collaboration. He noted that the new engineering studio and ICT hub would facilitate knowledge sharing among students, researchers, and faculty.
