Environmental Concerns Lead to Mining Site Closure in Osun

The Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development has established a fact-finding committee to evaluate the impact of gold mining operations on Osun State communities.
Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, announced the formation of this committee on his X page on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
Earlier, the Osun State government sealed the mining site of Thor Explorations Limited. The state accused the company of environmental degradation and tax evasion, allegations that Thor Explorations denies.
Dr. Alake previously responded to the claims and counterclaims between the Osun State Government and Thor Explorations Limited, the owner of Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL).
On September 30, 2024, the Osun State Government sealed the business premises of SROL, citing a court order that mandated the confiscation of the company due to “flagrant tax violations” and other operational issues.
