Polaris Bank Launches Sustainability Project with University of Ibadan

Polaris Bank Limited has launched a tree planting initiative in partnership with the University of Ibadan (UI) and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) to enhance environmental conservation efforts. This collaboration emerged during a recent visit to UI’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, where representatives from Polaris and NCF discussed the project’s objectives.
Abimbola Ozomah, the Executive Director of Corporate & Investment Banking at Polaris Bank, stated that this initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to corporate social responsibility. The tree planting effort aims to align with World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, 2024, focusing on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience, in accordance with the United Nations’ ecosystem restoration goals.
Mr. Adedayo Memudu, Senior Manager at NCF, emphasized the organization’s dedication to fostering a harmonious relationship between Nigerians and nature. He pointed out that this partnership with Polaris Bank would enhance the bank’s sustainability and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The visit concluded with the planting of trees on the university campus, showcasing a commitment to improving the local environment. Polaris Bank and NCF plan to sign a Memorandum of Understanding soon to formalize this collaboration.
UI Registrar, Mr. Ganiyu Saliu, reiterated the university’s commitment to conserving its vegetation. He explained that the university follows a structured policy for tree management, including a project to plant 1,000 trees as part of its 75th anniversary celebrations. This initiative aims to involve well-meaning citizens in promoting a greener environment.
