Support for Smallholder Farmers
Strategic Agricultural Development
Successful Input Distribution
BY SHEKWOPEYELO
The Niger government has earmarked 10,000 hectares of farmland in the Gbapo Community of Katcha Local Government Area for smallholder farmers under its agricultural intervention program. This initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity in the state.
So far, 2,000 of the 10,000 smallholder farmers have already received essential farming inputs. During a flag-off ceremony in Yinti village, Malam Idris Usman Makanta, the facilitator of the program, expressed confidence that additional distributions will follow if farmers respond positively.
Malam Usman Makanta clarified that starting with 2,000 farmers is a strategic move to gauge their response before rolling out full-scale support. This initiative aligns with the farmers’ commitment through Niger Foods, which focuses on establishing efficient and profitable agricultural enterprises. This effort supports Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s administration in its quest to boost agricultural productivity across the state.
He also praised Niger Foods for its dedication and resilience in effectively implementing the input financing scheme.
