Mobilizing Climate Adaptation Funds
Launched in 2021 by AfDB and the Global Centre on Adaptation (GCA), the AAAP aims to mobilize $25 billion by 2025 for transformative climate actions. To date, it has secured $12.5 billion, with $9.22 billion mobilized by the end of 2023.
Impact Across Africa
The AAAP integrates climate adaptation initiatives into 38 AfDB operations across 41 countries, benefiting millions in sectors like agriculture, water, and urban development. Its focus on youth entrepreneurship has supported 41 climate innovators in 20 African nations with a $5.5 million investment.
Addressing Food Security and Resilient Infrastructure
The AAAP has launched 17 projects improving food resilience for 9.4 million people in the Sahel, Horn of Africa, and Zambezi regions. It has also initiated 28 projects in 23 countries to enhance community resilience against climate shocks.

Richard Uku, Director of External Affairs at GCA, emphasized the importance of collaboration: “This award shows that partnerships can achieve scale and speed in climate adaptation efforts.”
The AAAP sets a benchmark for climate adaptation initiatives in Africa and serves as a model for potential implementation in other regions.
