WaterAid Nigeria and the FCT Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Directorate (RUWASSA) have launched a 133 million Naira initiative to improve Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The project, funded by the Latter-Day Saints Charity, focuses on Dakwa, Barangoni, Zuma II, and Tudun Fulani, expanding RUWASSA’s efforts to provide solar-powered water facilities and gender-inclusive sanitation options.

Now in its second year, the project has already impacted over 113,000 people in the FCT. Mr. Bayo Adebayo from WaterAid emphasized the project’s success and encouraged RUWASSA to extend similar initiatives. He highlighted WaterAid’s commitment to supporting facility maintenance training to ensure the project’s sustainability.

Mr. Mathias Makama, representing the Bwari Area Council, praised WaterAid’s contributions, expressing confidence that the project would significantly enhance access to clean water and sanitation. Community members have shared positive feedback, noting improved living conditions, including the story of a widow in Zuma II who gained dignity through the new sanitation facilities.

RUWASSA has called on community members to work towards an open-defecation-free society to prevent disease outbreaks and ensure long-term health benefits.
