Ismail Serageldin, Co-Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Nizami Ganjavi International Centre, has raised alarms over the sharp rise in global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Speaking at the High-Level Dialogue in Baku, Azerbaijan, Serageldin revealed that CO2 emissions have surged from 33 billion tons per year, 30 years ago, to an alarming 54 billion tons annually.

“Today’s CO2 levels are at their highest in two million years,” Serageldin stated, also noting that methane and nitrous oxide have reached unprecedented levels not seen in 800,000 years. This dramatic increase underscores the urgent need for global climate transparency and immediate action.

Serageldin emphasized that critical climate decisions must be made now to mitigate further damage. “With strong determination and global collaboration, we can reverse this trend and safeguard humanity from impending disaster,” he concluded.
